Reach Us

We like hearing from readers. A good many of our articles began as a question somebody sent in, and quite a few have been improved by someone kindly pointing out a slip. If you have something to say, we would be glad to read it.

How to write to us

Email is the only way to reach the team: contact@mycountryhideaway.com. There is no phone line and no postal address for visitors; we are a small group of writers working from our own homes. The form on this page simply opens your own email program with the address filled in, so you can see and edit everything before it goes.

What to put in your message

  • Which page you mean, ideally with the article title or its address.
  • What caught your eye, whether it is a question, an error or an idea.
  • Anything that helps us answer, such as the kind of fireplace, stove or set-top box you have, if it matters to the question.

Please leave out passwords, account numbers, medical details and anything else private. We will never ask for them, and we have no access to any account or service on your behalf.

What we can help with

We are happy to explain something in one of our articles more clearly, take a topic suggestion, or look into a possible mistake. Corrections follow the route described on Spotted an Error?

What we cannot do is give personal medical, legal or financial advice, diagnose a problem in your home from a description, or recommend a particular tradesperson. For a gas smell, a chimney fire, a burst pipe or anything else urgent, contact the emergency services or a qualified professional straight away rather than emailing us.

When to expect a reply

One of the four of us reads each note that arrives. Auberon sorts the inbox and passes each note to the writer closest to the subject: Lettice for house and hearth, Gethin for screens and gadgets, Elspeth for hobbies, food and travel. We answer as soon as we reasonably can, though a busy week or a long trip can slow things down.

Before you write

Your question may already be answered. What We Write About shows every section at a glance, and Our Reading Shelf collects some of our most useful guides. How we handle anything you send is set out in Data Protection.

Thank you for taking the time. It genuinely helps.

This opens your email app with the message ready to send to contact@mycountryhideaway.com. Nothing is stored on this site.

A few things first

What readers tend to ask

Short answers to the notes that reach our inbox most.

Can you recommend a plumber, roofer or sweep near me?

We cannot vouch for individual tradespeople. Neighbours, local trade associations and people you trust are the best places to begin.

Will you look at a problem in my own house?

We are glad to clarify anything in our articles, but we cannot diagnose something we have not seen. For anything urgent or risky, call a qualified professional.

Could I put forward an idea for an article?

Please do. Tell us what you were trying to do and where you got stuck; that is usually enough to shape a new guide.

How do I point out a mistake?

Send the article title and the passage in question. The page called Spotted an Error? explains what happens after that.

Something to add?

We read every message.
