Data Protection
This page explains what personal data is involved when you read My Country Hideaway, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: very little, and nothing is used to follow you around.
Who is responsible
The site is run by the small editorial team behind My Country Hideaway. For anything on this page, write to contact@mycountryhideaway.com.
A simple, static site
Every page here is a plain file, built in advance and delivered as it is. There are no user accounts, no comment forms, no shopping basket and no log-in. We do not run analytics tools, advertising scripts, tracking pixels, social media widgets or embedded videos that report back to third parties.
What the hosting company records
To deliver pages, the company that hosts the site processes certain technical information automatically when your browser requests a page. This typically includes:
- your IP address,
- the date and time of the request,
- the address of the page requested,
- the browser and operating system you use, as reported by your browser,
- the referring page, if your browser sends it.
These logs are needed to deliver the site reliably and to detect and defend against misuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Logs are kept only for a short period by the host and are not combined with other data or used to build profiles. We do not use them to identify individual readers.
Your cookie banner choice
Once you click a button on the cookie banner, a note of that click sits in your browser's local storage, which keeps the banner from popping up on each new page. That entry stays on your device; it is not sent to us. Clearing this site's stored data in your browser deletes it whenever you wish. More detail is on Cookies and Local Storage.
When you email us
An email from you reaches us with your address, any name you sign with and the text you chose to write. We use this only to read and answer your note, and to fix an article if you have pointed out a mistake. The legal basis is your request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in replying (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete correspondence once it is no longer needed, unless a longer retention period is required by law. Please do not send sensitive information such as health details, account numbers or passwords.
Links to other websites
Here and there an article sends you off to a website run by someone else. Once you follow such a link, the other site's own privacy terms apply, and we have no influence over what it collects.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to:
- learn whether any of your personal data sits with us, and receive a copy if it does,
- have inaccurate data corrected,
- have your data deleted once we have no good reason to hold on to it,
- restrict how your data is processed,
- object to processing based on legitimate interest,
- take the data you gave us with you in a common, machine-readable format,
- lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work.
A short email to the address near the top of this page is all it takes to exercise any of them. We will answer as quickly as we can and within the time the law allows.
Changes to this page
Should the workings of the site change, we will revise this page accordingly. Last updated: October 2026.
