Cookies and Local Storage
Cookie notices tend to be long and confusing. This one stays brief for a simple reason: we leave next to nothing behind on your device.
Cookies
My Country Hideaway does not set cookies for analytics, advertising, social media or tracking. There are no third-party scripts on our pages that would set them either. Reading the site does not require any cookie at all.
Local storage, and the one thing in it
Local storage is a small space in your browser where a website can keep a note for itself. Unlike a cookie, it is not sent along with every request to the server; it simply stays on your device.
We use it for exactly one entry: your answer to the cookie banner. When you accept or decline, the banner writes that choice to local storage so it can stay closed while you move from page to page and when you come back another day. The entry contains your choice and nothing else. It does not identify you, and we never read it from our side.
| What | Where | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banner choice | Your browser's local storage | Keeps the banner from reappearing | Until you clear it |
How to clear it
You can remove the entry whenever you like:
- In your browser's settings, find the section on privacy or stored website data.
- Find the entry for this site, or clear stored data for all sites.
- Reload the page. The banner will ask again, and nothing else on the site changes.
Private or incognito windows usually forget local storage when you close them, so the banner may show up again each time you visit that way. That is expected.
Changing your mind
Since there is nothing to switch on or off beyond the banner itself, clearing the stored choice is all it takes to answer again. Whichever option you pick, the site works the same.
Hosting and server logs
Separately from your browser, the company that hosts this site keeps short-lived technical logs when pages are requested. These involve no cookies and are described on our Data Protection page.
